In this video Red Evolution's Dave Robinson talks about getting to the top of the search engine rankings mountain from, you guessed it, the top of a mountain.

Every week, I speak to businesses, small businesses, big businesses, and most of them are asking, "How do we get to the top of Google? How do we get better search rankings? Is there a quick way? Is there an easy way? Can you help us? How long will it take? How much will it cost?"

It's a difficult question to answer because getting to the top of Google, getting to the top of the search ranking, getting found by your ideal customers in Google takes time and effort, especially if you're trying to rank for a competitive phrase like SEO Glasgow.

lochnager climber

Right now, I'm on top of Lochnagar. I'm fortunate enough to live quite close to Lochnagar, so I come up here quite a lot. Every time I come up it, it's a slog. There ain't no easy way, take it in stages, one step at a time but you know? By doing that, by taking those first steps, by setting a goal, I'm going to get to that point. I'm going to get to the bridge. I'm going to get to the col. I'm going to get to the top of the ladder. I'm going to get to the top of the next bit. I'm going to get to the trick point at the top. By doing that, taking it in stages but keeping on moving, you get to the top of the mountain.

I know it's a corny analogy, but it's so true. It rings so true. Once you get to the top, you get to appreciate the view. The view from the top of here is fantastic. It's a little bit misty today, but it's still fantastic. The view from the top of the search rankings is also great, knowing that every day, people are going to find your website, ping you a message, give you an opportunity to help them, an opportunity to do business.

My advice, climb that mountain, start. Once you get up to a certain point and you're looking down at people who are behind you, it's a good feeling. Once you get to the very top and you're the only person there, and I'm lucky enough to be the only person on top of here at the moment, it's even better. Want to get more customers online, want to get to the top of Google, climb the mountain.

Okay, I'm back at the car. Big mountain where we were, behind us. Coming down, there was lots of people going up and they were puffing away, red faced, but they'll get there. They're powering to the top of the mountain at their own pace. At some point today, they'll stand on the top and they'll feel great as a result of doing it.

Some people, they were maybe half an hour into the walk, if you're walking, it's probably, I don't know, five and a half, six hours round trip, they were probably half an hour in and they were sat eating chocolate, puffing and panting. They're not getting to the top. They've already given up, so the metaphor continues. Anyway, I've done my mountain for today. Good luck with yours.
